I totally get where you are coming from. The world would be in such a better place if people were taught how to self-advocate for their health. I feel there should be some sort of fundamental class taught in high school that would give kids a true primer on mental and physical health and wellness.

However, as someone who has worked around pharma and biotech her entire career, I have to say that pharma companies are highly scrutinized by the public, and highly regulated by the FDA, which is an independent government agency. The FDA reviews every single word that goes on any medication, or on any advertising. And some of the recent price gouging that has gone on in Pharma (brought to light thanks to our pharma bro Martin Shkreli) has brought additional scrutiny on the industry, which is not a bad thing.

My point is that there is not one place to put the blame. I think that creating education for people would be a much more constructive direction. People need to understand that taking a pill will not make every health issue magically disappear. I doubt highly that a Pharma company will pay for that educational campaign and message. Perhaps its time to start a non-profit with this idea? That actually sounds amazing… and something that society desperately needs.
