Lance, I am honored that you have asked me for my 2 cents. It seems like you are quite self aware and highly motivated which is great.

I definitely recommend getting evaluated by a healthcare professional. A neuropsychologist who can really give you a full picture of your strengths and weaknesses would be ideal, if your resources would allow.

Most of my recommendations come more from parenting kids with Executive Function issues than having them myself. But a book called Late, Lost, and Unprepared is one of the gold standards. Not all of it is appropriate for you but it will be a great starting point.

There are also many Executive Function coaches out there, and even if you sign up for their free tips, they can be incredibly helpful. One that I love (although, again — focused on helping kids) is Seth Perler (www.sethperler.com). His strategies and tools are very simple but very powerful.

Finally, if you struggle with time management as well (you don’t mention this but it can be a common issue), I recommend a woman named Marydee Sklar (website: www.executivefunctioningsuccess.com) She developed a really great system for people who struggle with time.

I hope that can at least get you started. Good luck with your journey!
